We've just rolled out an upgrade to inbro SeeInside to improve printing. Your readers can now easily print any single document page, or pair of pages, just by using their browser's Print functionality. No special tools or tricks are needed.

For maximum readability, the printed version of the document page will show only the document page itself. The SeeInside website's frames and navigation tools are all removed, what's left is your content front and centre.

inbro Select is a fantastic tool for offering your website visitors immediate email delivery of your inbros, and for capturing their email addresses and other information for analysis and follow up.

Yesterday we removed the 'cap' on how many inbro Select orders were included in the standard monthly service fee. Previously the fee included 50 orders per month per document, over that cap they were charged extra. That charge is now removed. Unlimited inbro Select is now included in our standard fee.

As well as being embedded in inbro SeeInside, you can also make an inbro Select button on any webpage - clicking this popups up a window (the reader isn't removed from the host website) that invites the reader to order an inbro by email. It self-closes once the order is made.

If you've been wondering about how to make the most of inbro Select but concerned about potential costs, be concerned no more! That barrier is now removed. Please contact inbro if you have a question or need help or advice.

The 'Video' tab is a new addition to our iPad app platform, and integrates directly with a publisher's Youtube account or Youtube search results. The video list is refreshed each time the reader opens the app, and any video can be played just by touching it. This makes the app more useful and informative for the reader and pushes the app further towards being a one-stop brand portal between the user and the publisher.

inbro's donations to environmental protection, due to our membership and commitment to the 1% for the Planet* network have just been mailed.

We donated to the Environmental Justice Foundation and to Sustrans. (Actually we don't regard it as a donation, more an investment. As 1FTP say themselves, "there is no business to be done on a dead planet").

We chose EJF because we agree that "environmental security is a human right", and we think they're trying to get as close to the source of the problems as they possibly can. Benefits flow downstream from that.

We chose Sustrans because they're a UK organisation, as we are, and we wanted a proportion of our donations to be accountably spent in the UK, because we think their projects can benefit the entire community, especially the young growing up in a crowded auto-motived world, and because we love our bikes.

Thank you to our clients, suppliers, staff and partners. You make this possible.

* 1% for the Planet is a network, started by Yves Chouinard the founder of Patagonia, that connects for-profits willing to donate 1% of gross revenues to environmental protection, to non-profits working to improve the environment.

Last week we upgraded inbro to add unlimited linking.

From now on all links you add to PDFs you upload to inbro will automatically be re-published to your readers using inbro Select and inbro SeeInside. You can use this for product specific or e-commerce links, or for simple homepage links. Your inbros will become more useful for your readers and more effective for you.

You can easily add links to a PDF using Adobe Acrobat (see Tools -> Advanced Editing -> Link Tool), or if your PDF production process is automated it may be configured to add links for you too, based on product codes or page copy and titles.

Unlimited linking is a no-charge upgrade to inbro.

The last few months we've been working hard on a complete overhaul - both visual and interface - of the inbro SeeInside service.

There's in-depth information, and a form to apply for a trial, at http://inbro.net/what/inbro_seeinside, so please take a look.

What I thought would be fun for posterity would be some side-by-side screenshots of the key parts of SeeInside clearly showing the changes in the new release compared to version 1.

One very important part of SeeInside hasn't changed: it's firmly designed to put the publisher's content front and centre, and work on every web browser (including mobile). There are no downloads to wait for, no page flipping animations and no distracting sound effects - it's simple, fast, and readable.

For publishers with a portfolio of documents, more whitespace on the index page brings the documents forwards. We've also added Facebook share links to every page.

TrekAmerica's implementation is a nice example of the brand-specific colour scheme.

Double-page spreads are larger, making the most of the publisher's design effort. The hover bar for navigation partially fades for easier reading. It quickly returns to full opacity as soon as the reader moves their mouse.

Single page is larger too, for maximum readability. Also the width of the search and chapter selection area is consistent across the whole document so appears fixed as the reader pages through the document, even though each document page is really a new web page.

As well as the complete brochure library and an in-app web site link, this release of the app also adds a news feed, connected to Skedaddle's blog, with the feed and articles available directly in-app, and updating automatically each time the reader opens the app.

We're working towards apps published on the inbro platform being a one stop portal for readers to track and interact with the publisher's brand and products.

One of the things we have done in recent months is to add an iPad app to our service.  The iPad is such a great device for reading brochures and magazines, it seemed an obvious platform for us to support.

Not only do we have an inbro app which allows downloading and viewing publications from our clients, but we also offer a custom app service. If you wish to have your own branded presence on the iPad, this could be the simplest and fastest way to achieve this.

The Canadian Affair app has been available in the iPad app store since early April, and with little effort has clocked over 100 downloads and has put over 125 brochures in the hands of consumers. It's an easy way to leverage the investment in producing the brochures, and not only that, but it's environmentally friendly and easy and fun to use for consumers.

The app offers not only a great way to show off the great photography and design of their publications, but also a tab to access the website so the latest news and offers are right there under the fingers of the user.  The app also optionally features a news tab which is directly fed from your blog or RSS feed, and a push notification system that will gently alert users when there is news or new/updated publications available.

We've enjoyed making this app, but most of all it feels great to browse brochures and other publications on the bright and colourful screen of an iPad. We think consumers will feel the same way.

I updated this feature today: here's what it does and how to use it.

What 'Replaces' Does

Using 'Replaces' you can set that an inbro is a 'replacement' for another.

When the new inbro goes live, the replaced inbro is expired automatically and all links to the replaced inbro redirect to the new one. You don't need to remember to update the replaced inbro to expire it.

Also any inbro Select buttons on your site that are coded for the replaced inbro will show the pop-up for the replacing inbro.

This saves you editing links and inbro Select buttons on your site, a real help if you have many inbros or links in several places.

'Replaces' works well across multiple generations too, so for example if you publish several editions a year and your Spring edition replaced your Winter edition, then later on your Summer edition replaced your Spring edition, all links to either the Winter or Spring edition will redirect to the Summer edition.

You can set 'Replaces' on an inbro at any time. One inbro can replace several others if you need.

How to Set 'Replaces'

In inbro Publisher, edit the inbro you want to set (you'll also see this screen when you create a new inbro).

The drop down shows all the inbros this one could replace. Pick one.

The screen will refresh to show your selection as replaced.

Pick more inbros to be replaced if you wish.

Then click 'Save changes' and you're done.

If you want to undo a replacement, edit the inbro, click the 'Remove' button for the replacement, then click 'Save changes'.
